Since 1980 and the opening up of European markets, Agrico has been the leading importer of Dutch seed potatoes into the UK.
Dutch seed has taken preference in some localities over the years for a number of reasons Dutch seed tends to be physiologically older and can mature more quickly for early ware production. It has also had a very good reputation for negligible levels of Erwina Atroseptica and powdery scab. The strength of Agrico's breeding programme is such that new varieties with enhanced properties tend to originate from Dutch seed before they are multiplied in the UK. |
