Carolus

Carolus is an early maincrop, multipurpose ware variety with attractive red eyes and Late Blight resistance in Foliage and Tuber. Carolus is one of our Next Generation varieties.

The tubers are uniformly oval in shape. With an excellent flavour it is suitable for boiling, mashing and makes superb roast potatoes. Ideally grown with suitable irrigation.

Suggested fertiliser treatment
Nitrogen: standard advice +10% to avoid very high dry matter levels.
Potassium: standard advice + 15% to reduce bruising and harvest damage.
Phosphate: standard advice.

Cultivation
Chitting is recommended but, de-sprouting can have a negative impact.
Carolus is susceptible to Common Scab, avoid the lighter soils and ensure that irrigation is timed for tuber initiation.

Plant spacing
35/55mm: 25cm (45,000 plants/Ha).
Spacing figures for 90cm row width.

Herbicide sensitivity
Do not use Metribuzin (Sencorex) as it gives a sever foliage reaction and yield reduction.

Storage
Good dormancy, suitable for medium term storage.
