Say potato, say Agrico
To grow marketable and high-yielding potato crops, choosing the right seed potatoes is essential. We have an extensive knowledge of the requirements for the UK markets. This enables us to accurately identify supply and demand and provide growers with expert guidance.
Our extensive research efforts produce a large range of innovative and very competitive potato varieties. Our next generation portfolio delivers credible disease resistance whilst offering high yield and consumer appeal.
Agrico applies an integrated approach in the potato value chain. Together with our breeders, growers and customers, we strive for the highest achievable results.
As a grower, you benefit from:
Our activities go beyond supplying high-quality potatoes. We work with our growers and customers to maximise the opportunity for growth.
Throughout the multiplication process and the growing of Agrico varieties, we offer assistance and technical advise to our growers such as:
Better research, better varieties and better advice leading to a successful crop. We aim to exceed expectations by working with the whole supply chain towards delivering a sustainable enterprise. The best possible variety for every customer.
At Agrico UK we commit every day to achieving optimal growth for all our stakeholders. This means that we invest in the growth of our breeders, growers and buyers to deliver for our customers.
Satisfied customers being the foundation of all businesses within the supply chain.
On site at Castleton of Eassie, we have a total storage capacity of 6,000 tonnes of potatoes at any one time. Half of this can be held in ambient storage, with the other half being kept in our two cold stores. We offer long term storage on behalf of our supplying growers all the way through to June if required.
Our stores use a combination of roof fans, cross ventilation letter box systems and drying walls, to dry and cure the potatoes to maintain their peak condition for the coming season.
We can grade up to 9,000 tonnes of potatoes annually using our Dijkstra grader, that can grade approximately 100 tonnes a day. Other facilities include our palletising and bagging equipment which allows us to efficiently bag, seal and build pallets. This is a chargeable service that is available to our growers and customers alike.
Finally, the most important thing with potatoes in our store is the constant monitoring of them. We keep daily records of in store temperatures and humidity levels and check all stocks on a regular basis to prevent any problems arising.
We support the sustainability and further optimisation of successful potato value chains that are already in place.
We do this by working together with other input partners who provide high quality solutions for soil testing services, crop nutrition advice and crop protection programmes. But also by connecting farmers to buyers, to service providers for mechanisation or financing and by offering a lot of training.
The farmer remains the core of our focus; my colleagues and I are therefore ready to offer assistance.
